Winemaker Description
Vibrant aromas of raspberries and dark berries rise from this superbly crafted wine from the warm growing regions of northern Sonoma County. The mid-palate is filled with explosively expressive flavors of ripe caneberries and the finish lingers long on the palate with soft tannins and mature acidity.
The Vineyards
The vineyards of Parkers Estate are located throughout the many micro climates comprising Sonoma’s wine country. Soil types vary in composition from deep red “Terra Rosa” loams, to weathered volcanic ash. The vines are carefully tended and grown in hedgerows, allowing the late afternoon sun to bathe the grapes in gentle warmth.
Vinification
Parkers Estate Zinfandel was sourced from select vineyards in northern Sonoma County. After the grapes were destemmed, seventy-five percent were crushed with the remainder left as whole grapes. The wine went to open-top fermenters where the cap was punched down three times daily. At perfect sugar levels, the wine was removed from the skins, pressed then blended. Nine months aging in French and American oak barrels was followed by bottling in the spring of 2009.
Tasting and Pairing
Magnificent aromas of black raspberry and mountain cherries are dominant themes in this wine. Ripe fruit acidity and the brilliant flavors place Parkers Estate in the pantheon of great California Zinfandels. Pair this wine with southern Indian curries, zesty barbeques and tomato based Italian dishes.
